SCENARIOS

New Finnish Design SCENARIOS — A Story about what Happened in the Future was held in New York’s Meatpacking District during the 24th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) in 2011. Curated by interior architect and furniture designer Sari Anttonen, the multilayered exhibition included the latest products from designers, design studios, and manufacturers including Innojok, Saas Instruments, Vallila Interior, Vivero, and Woodnotes, along with Mari Isopahkala, Harri Koskinen for Genelec, Hannu Kähönen and Annele Valkama for Creadesign Oy, Samuli Naamanka for Plastex and Piiroinen, Pentagon Design, Heikki Ruoho for Showroom Finland, Ilkka Suppanen for Tikau, and Tunto Design.

SCENARIOS explored a wide range of current themes including sustainability, ethical thinking, mobility, technological and material innovations, the creative use of existing materials and techniques and multisensory reception.

Illustrated stories from the early years of the participating companies allowed visitors to familiarize themselves with the ideas, inspirations, and processes traditionally found at the core of Finnish design. During the SCENARIOS event, students from New York and Helsinki worked in the event space and offered visitors the possibility to have a first-hand look into the creative process of the latest interior design objects.
